Almost exactly one month ago, the rumor from the Daily Mail was that “Chelsea could use Batshuayi to sign Pulisic”. Now it’s Morata’s turn to be the bait as Borussia Dortmund have cooled in the meantime on Michy but have remained linked with Morata.
Chelsea’s record signing didn’t quite have the spectacular season one could’ve expected of him following his summer transfer, his goal-filled start, and his long-awaited reunion with head coach Antonio Conte. A mid-season back injury didn’t help, nor did a hilarious streak of missed chances. Those two factors combined derailed Morata’s good start (and Chelsea’s season to a large degree as well) and by the end of the season, he was stuck firmly behind January signing Olivier Giroud in the pecking order. Morata also lost his place in the Spanish national team and has not done much to dissuade the notion of leaving Chelsea after just one year.
Borussia Dortmund are very much looking for a striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. While Morata has been mostly linked with Juventus and AC Milan, and the Mail admit that BVB “may not appeal” to him as much, Chelsea are apparently willing to use him as part-exchange to get the £60m-rated Christian Pulisic.

The 19-year-old has been urged to stay in Dortmund for a little while longer, but has been linked with Spurs, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich as well. His father has called all those rumors “hogwash” a few weeks ago, but surely, the big money move is going to happen sooner rather than later; hopefully Chelsea won’t be sleeping on this chance.
