Chelsea were said to be in “advanced talks” merely a week ago, but now Sky Sports are reporting that Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri is instead in similar talks with, ironically, Chelsea’s most favourite club in the world, Napoli. This information isn’t coming from some random source either, it’s from Seri’s own agent who claims that his client is “tempted” by a move.
The Italian side face the prospect of probably losing both Marik Hamsik (to China) and Jorginho (to Manchester City) in the near future, two players who have been absolutely crucial to their recent successes, and Seri is seen as the perfect replacement for one of them. As a result, they are prepared to leapfrog all others, including Chelsea, and have no problem paying the 26-year-old’s full €40m release clause. Yes, that is actually possible, shocking as that may be.
Being one of the less silly rumours of recent times, the potential acquisition of Seri was welcome news, as he’d likely be an instant upgrade for Chelsea’s current midfield. As things stand, however, Chelsea will have to look elsewhere, even though Sky Sports does mention us still being interested (i.e. we’re monitoring and preparing and thinking about doing things).
