Serie B side Venezia looking to sign free agent Chelsea teenager — report

Decisions to be made for the 19-year-old

London-born Harvey St Clair, who, like many others in the academy, has been with Chelsea since before age 8, was not on the club’s official released list, but he is out of contract and thus free to choose his next move. Chelsea have offered a new contract, but the 19-year-old appears to have at least one other option. In a seemingly random move, Serie B side Venezia have offered a contract as well.

Currently managed by the legendary Pippo Inzaghi, Venezia finished fifth in Serie B but were eliminated in the semifinals of the promotion playoffs by losing to Palermo on Sunday.

St Clair meanwhile just finished fourth with Scotland U21 (and Chelsea academy teammate Billy Gilmour) at the Toulon Tournament. He is one of two academy free agents who have been offered contracts by the club; 21-year-old midfielder Ruben Sammut is the other.

Di Marzio claims that St Clair is set to join Venezia, but it’ll be interesting to see what the youngster chooses to do at this point in his career. Does he sign with Chelsea and presumably do the loan dance? Or does he take a chance and go off to Italy and make a name for himself that way?
