If you were wondering when Silly Season was officially ready to start for Chelsea this summer, wonder no more.

Sure, the Blues’ pursuit of Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is already the stuff of legends, but it’s still a reasonable endeavor — until we get to the part when Aurelio De Laurentiis is basically holding is former head coach hostage — since Chelsea seem intent on liberating ourselves from one of the best managers in club history.

But as far as players have been concerned, it’s been mostly low-level rumor mongering and mostly regarding player sales rather than acquisitions. But that will simply not do for the next two and a half months, so here comes Corriere dello Sport to get the party started.

Sarri has apparently pinpointed Inter’s Mauro Icardi as the man to solve Chelsea’s goalscoring woes, and will receive the 25-year-old striker as his welcome gift from Abramovich. BOOM.

As the tweet points out, in their previous edition, Corriere dello Sport claimed that Juventus were going to swap Higuain plus some cash for Icardi instead, while a couple days ago, it was a Morata+cash bid that was supposedly the ticket. Basically, they’re just printing every version of this rumor probably because Inter boss Luciano Spalletti didn’t categorically slam the doors shut on the Icardi situation when asked about it a few days ago.

But sure, let’s believe that Abramovich is about to shatter the Chelsea transfer record by paying Icardi’s €110m release clause, when we can’t even bring ourselves to pay €8m for a new manager.

LOL.
