Willian is happy. Willian is scoring wonderful goals. Willian has reclaimed his job as a regular starter.
What better time for the red-top newspapers to gin-up a nonsense story, then, especially with an open mid-week spot on the Chelsea calendar? Cue The Sun, which claims that Manchester United want to put their mitts on our 29 year-old forward, who’s enjoying another fine season in Blue with 13 goals (career high!) and 11 assists in 46 matches in all comps.
The way they tell it, Mourinho wants to replace Juan Mata with Willian. And that they’ll pay £30 million to get him. Sound familiar? It should. This sort of rumor-mongering is nothing new for The Sun (or the rest of the tabloid media), who have been pushing the Willian-to-Manchester United (and a Mourinho reunion) story for the last two years. They never give up, apparently.
It’s nothing but noise, as before. Chelsea aren’t inclined to sell a highly productive player who is under contract through 2020. And Willian isn’t interested. He’s said many times that he loves Chelsea and wants to stay. Willian could however be due for one final long-term contract extension, seeing as how he’ll be turning 30 in August.
So, put in the earplugs, block out the noise, and treat yourself to a visual feast instead; Willian’s top ten goals for Chelsea.
