Chelsea stand on the cusp of yet another very important summer transfer window, with uncertainty at the head coaching position, change and renewal needed throughout the squad, and at least two important contract extensions to take care of at the same as well. All of that is then wrapped up in question marks surrounding Chelsea’s upper management structure, with the Blues now going on six months without an actual technical director and any outwardly obvious sense of direction.
But neither time nor football wait for Chelsea, so as we drag our feet around the major decisions that have to be made, the transfer rumor mill rumbles on. Today’s big name is Nice midfielder Jean Michaël Seri, who was very briefly linked back in January after his summer move to Barcelona fell through. The 26-year-old is an excellent all-around midfielder and one who could easily fit into just every top side in European football. In addition to Barca, both Manchesters and Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked in the recent past as well.
Basically, the dude’s going to leave Nice this summer for a bigger, richer team — he has a €40m unofficial buyout clause agreement, as reported by L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) — the only question is where he will end up going.
Could it be Chelsea? Kanté won’t be able to do by himself forever; Fàbregas isn’t getting any younger; Drinkwater isn’t getting any better; and while Bakayoko might, that might take a bit.
We could certainly do worse than Seri.
