PANIC! Or just don’t.

The unease from Thibaut Courtois not yet putting pen to paper on an extension with Chelsea has only grown following reports that talks between the parties will be delayed until mid-March. To make matters worse, it feels as if the agreement will hinge on our outlook after season-defining encounters with Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as well as Barcelona in the Champions League and Leicester City in the FA Cup.

In case a fallout takes place, there is another candidate outside of Madrid that would gladly pick up Courtois services. According to Belgian TV station RTBF, Paris Saint-Germain have held “informal talks” with Thibaut’s father Thierry over a potential switch to the French club from Chelsea in the summer.

The meeting however did not involve Courtois’ agent Christophe Henrotay. As is stands, it seems more like PSG getting a feel on the situation rather than it becoming formal interest from the club. And that may give Chelsea, Courtois and other parties involved a boost to solve these matters in quicker fashion.

PSG would be dependent on selling some of their players to acquire someone such as Courtois, who would certainly require a record transfer fee despite having only one year left on his current contract. PSG would also have an uphill battle convincing the goalkeeper that he would be able to win the Champions League with the French club, given their recent failures in the tournament despite investing huge sums.

Real Madrid are still the likeliest destination for Courtois’ services should he push for an exit. A return to Atlético Madrid may also be in the cards, as the Colchoneros could very well lose Jan Oblak to a top European club and look to use the funds from the transfer to bring back their former standout.

But, mostly, hopes remain that Chelsea and Courtois can end all of this uncertainty by agreeing upon a new contract. Just get it done!
