Barcelona-based Mundo Deportivo are reporting that former Barca boss Luis Enrique is definitely ready to return to football management this summer, and that the Premier League is his preferred destination. While there is speculation with teams elsewhere in Europe as well (PSG, Milan, for example), MD seem quite certain that the Premier League is what’s on Lucho’s mind.
Chelsea of course have been linked for a few weeks now as Antonio Conte’s future has been thrown into even greater disarray than normal, though most sources agree that even if Conte gets the early boot, Luis Enrique wouldn’t be taking over until the summer.
Unless of course he doesn’t take over at all, as apparently Arsenal have “reacted” to Chelsea’s move and have made their interest known to the 47-year-old. For the Gunners it all depends on whether Arsene Wenger is finally ready to release his zipper-hold on the club, but if he does abdicate this summer, Arsenal could do Chelsea (and Conte?) a favor and take Luis Enrique off the market.
MD do claim that Chelsea remain in “pole position” as the club believe that Luis Enrique represents the best available option on the market currently (both in terms of success and compatibility with the Board’s ideals and aims).
