After being re-linked with Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj yesterday, Chelsea have been linked with yet another target from our summer transfer window — Nabil Fekir. Have we traveled back to the past? I must put money on France winning the World Cup!
According to France Football, Chelsea, along with Bayern Munich, are the clubs who are most interested in signing Fekir from Lyon. The report also states that Fekir could leave Lyon as soon as next month, but if not then, then definitely at the end of the season as his departure has become a matter of when rather than if.

You may remember Fekir’s botched transfer last year where he was even pictured wearing Liverpool’s ugly kit until Liverpool got cold feet over his knee which had a cruciate ligament rupture back in 2015 and kept him out of action for more than 200 days. Chelsea were linked after that, but no move materialized.
Fekir is still a very good player and would be a decent signing, just like he would’ve been back in the summer. However, the issues with him still stand as well. Even if we were to ignore his dodgy knee, his lack of speed and defensive awareness and preference for a central attacking midfield position (i.e. a number-ten) makes him a questionable fit for Sarri’s 4-3-3. Our resources are probably better spent elsewhere (like on actual wingers or strikers).
