Reports in Italy today (via Football Italia) claim that Cesc Fàbregas is getting closer to an AC Milan move this January, with the two teams ready to meet and negotiate a deal “in the next few days”.
Apparently Fàbregas is Milan’s “No. 1 objective” for the winter transfer window, which isn’t necessarily a new development — especially after midfielder Giacomo Bonaventure underwent knee surgery — but the reports also claim that Cesc wants to “reinvent himself” in Italy, which is. Fàbregas has shot down any and all previous rumors about leaving Chelsea (including to Milan, repeatedly), but while he hasn’t responded to this latest round, it is the first time he’s involved in such rumors with an expiring contract.
The 31-year-old has not found much joy under Maurizio Sarri yet, although with Jorginho struggling in recent matches, we could perhaps see an uptick in his minutes. Still, Fàbregas’s time at Chelsea appears to be drawing to a close, but whether that exit happens in January or in the summer remains to be seen.
