Chelsea may have “won the battle” and Pulisic may be set to make a decision in January, but it’s far from a foregone conclusion that the Blues will end with the 20-year-old’s signature on a contract, as much as yours truly is hoping and wishing that to be the case.
While Chelsea have reportedly been tracking the Great Hope of American Soccer for some time, we’re hardly alone in hoping to win his favor if and when he does decide to leave Borussia Dortmund. In England, Liverpool have the Klopp-connection advantage, while in Germany, the big bad hoover of talent that is Bayern Munich is always at the ready to swoop in.
In fact, according to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, one of America’s most preeminent football journalists, Bayern are showing “significant interest” as well. While the report agrees that Chelsea have emerged as the “top contender” in England, Bayern’s pull should not be underestimated, especially when it comes to players in the Bundesliga. Much like Chelsea with Willian and Pedro, Bayern have a couple aging wingers in Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery who will need replacing sooner than later.
So, Chelsea may have won the battle, but we have not won the war yet.
New insider: Bayern Munich wants Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile, Julen Lopetegui, former Spain and Real Madrid coach, approached US Soccer with interest in USMNT job. US Soccer said no thanks. https://t.co/JPWlGyq2qE
