Lucas Piazon’s future remains a mystery. He did not go on loan last summer, he did not find a permanent transfer either, and he has not featured in any first-team action besides a few cameos in pre-season friendlies and a couple of appearances for Chelsea’s U23 squad.
Last week, reports from Brazil emerged that Piazon was drawing interest from Corinthians. The giants of Brazilian football have been struggling this season and their president, Andres Sánchez, saw the 24-year-old as one name who could help lift them out of the quagmire. However, in reality, that will not be the case.
In an informal talk with journalists after his European tour, as reported by Globo Esporte, Sánchez did not talk about the “four or five names” that could be brought to his club in January. He did, however, go out of his way to deny the links between Piazon and Corinthians that came up last week.
That, of course, does not bode well for Piazon in terms of finding some actual football to play in January. Recent Derby County rumors aside, it would appear that he will simply wait out the expiration of his contract at the end of the season and become a free agent.
