Chelsea, Liverpool interested in Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne — report

Well sure, who wouldn’t be?

While Genoa striker Krzysztof Piątek is hogging most of the Serie A spotlight with his amazing record of nine goals in seven league appearances, other, more established players are also posting good numbers. One of them is Napoli forward Lorezno Insigne, whose six goals in the competition put him second only to Piątek in the charts.

According to Rai Sport (via Metro), Insigne’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by clubs in England. Chelsea have long been admirers of the diminutive attacker, and those links have only grown stronger thanks to the arrival of Maurizio Sarri in the summer. Liverpool have joined the narrative now as well, especially after witnessing the 27-year-old’s quality first-hand a few weeks ago, when he scored the last-minute winner in Napoli’s 1-0 Champions League group stage triumph.

But this is likely nothing more than just idle chatter to fill time during the international break. Insigne signed a new contract through 2022 last year, to commit himself to the club he joined as a 15-year-old in 2006. Other than an injury-shortened 2014-15 season, Insigne has missed just 6 Serie A games for Napoli since 2012. While he would certainly be a tremendous signing for any Premier League, he’s probably not going anywhere ... except maybe to the negotiating table to sign another new contract from De Laurentiis.
