This isn’t the first time Cesc Fàbregas has been linked with AC Milan, and it isn’t the second either. But given the contract he signed with Chelsea back in 2014 is set to to expire in June, it may be the last time. If Milan were ever to have a chance to sign Fàbregas, this just might be their best shot.
According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), this is exactly what AC Milan are seeking to do. While they have already reinforced their midfield with Brazilian starlet Lucas Paquetá, who will arrive at the San Siro in January, his addition may not be enough and a more veteran signing could also be needed.
The major hurdle this time as every time will be convincing Cesc to join them. Fàbregas has firmly rejected any offers to leave Chelsea in the last couple transfer windows — including every time Milan have tried — and even now, has already stated his intent to convince the head coach of his qualities and maybe even earn himself the customary (for the over 30 crowd) one-year contract extension.
And given that Sarri seems to rate Fàbregas quite highly — a pass-master should certainly be useful in a pass-happy attack — the 31-year-old should play a big part of Chelsea’s season, especially as we challenge on four fronts. He may not displace Jorginho, but he could certainly rotate with him regularly. That alone may not earn him a new contract, but it certainly should be enough to keep him around until at least the end of the season.
