The second domino has fallen.
While Michy Batshuayi’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund has not been officially confirmed yet — all reports point to that being more or less a formality — the German club have confirmed that they have sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal. BVB were not going to do that until they had secured a replacement, which is where Michy’s loan comes into play. Aubameyang reportedly fetched around £56m in transfer fees, a club record for Arsenal, despite being 28.5 already.

So, with Batshuayi in Dortmund and Aubameyang at Arsenal, we now just need the third leg of the triangle. We’ve not heard much movement on the Giroud front, but it generally seems understood that barring any nefarious shenanigans from that corner of London, the French international will be a Chelsea player before the day’s out. Hopefully they won’t make us wait until the final hours. Would rather not have to entertain the prospects of Chelsea tackling the second half of the season with just one striker or a having to make a last-minute emergency move for Emile Heskey.
