Chelsea allowing young left wing-backs Kenedy and Baba Rahman to join Newcastle and Schalke 04 (respectively) on loan in the last few days was an obvious indication that the club was close to wrapping up a deal for a new player to take the position in Roma’s Emerson Palmieri. And now the deal is as close as it can get to its very end, as Simon Johnson from the London Standard Evening reports that Emerson headed from the Giallorossi training groung straight to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport. His destination is London, as he is set to take a medical before completing his switch to Stamford Bridge.

Emerson’s deal was reportedly delayed due to the conjoined negotiations with a potential move for another Roma player in striker Edin Dzeko. But with the Dzeko switch hitting a wall over contract and transfer fee demands, the deals were separated just so one could not affect the other.
Now it seems it will be only a matter of time before we have Emerson putting pen to paper on a Chelsea deal, and wearing our shirt for what we expect to be a long while. Stay tuned!
