Chelsea, Wolfsburg monitoring young PSG defender — report

While much of Chelsea’s focus in recent transfers has been their first team, the Blues are still looking to pounce on opportunities to add new youngsters to keep the Academy well stocked.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea along with Bundesliga team Wolfsburg and several others have been monitoring 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdourahmane Barry.

He has been part of PSG’s U19 squad that is set to take on Ajax in the UEFA Youth League next month. The French youngster is primarily a centre-back, but can also paly at right-back and at defensive midfield.

His contract with PSG is set to expire next summer. But Barry will not leave the Parisiens for free, as they are bound to receive compensation for helping in his development as per FIFA regulations.

All in all, Barry looks like a standard Chelsea youth transfer target: a young player who may have loads of room to grow, and needs a proper set-up to do so. And world-class support is just what he would get at Cobham.
