Edin Dzeko’s Chelsea move held up by visa issues — report

Apparently the striker’s British visa has expired and he’s still waiting for a new one.

Chelsea are expected to finalize the signing of AS Roma left back Emerson today, but there is far less clarity in the situation of his current and possibly future teammate Edin Dzeko.

Reports of a potential agreement between the two clubs (though not between Chelsea and Dzeko) made the rounds on Wednesday, but were quickly debunked by Roma sporting director Monchi, who claimed that no good offers had actually arrived.

Meanwhile, reports back in Dzeko’s homeland of Bosnia spoke of issues with Dzeko’s British visa, despite once signing a contract (and thus securing a work permit) with Manchester City through 2018.

Mrkonja is a reporter for Sarajevo’s N1 news channel and presumably isn’t just making up things. Presumably the visa issue will be reduced to a formality if and when the time comes for Dzeko to fly to London, but it adds yet another layer of complexity to what is already a rather questionable proposition.

That said, here’s Dzeko scoring in the dying moments of last night’s match for Roma, to draw them level with Sampdoria.
