Chelsea may be looking for left wing-back options and reinforcements, but left wing-back Baba Rahman looks set to be a left wing-back for Schalke for at least the rest of the left wing-back season. Which is strange in a way, but not entirely unexpected.
Baba’s been linked with Schalke (where he was on loan last season before blowing out his ACL while playing for Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations in January) ever since the summer, with only his slower than expected recovery from said injury keeping him from completing that move. Schalke had recently expressed their intentions to re-acquire the 23-year-old on loan depending on his physical condition, and it sounds like those concerns have been allayed and they’re ready to move.
“We’re in talks with Chelsea regarding Baba Rahman. There are still one or two things to clear up on their end. We could agree on a deal with the player himself relatively quickly.”
-Christian Heidel, sporting director; source: Schalke 04
So that sounds like personal terms have been agreed and now the two clubs just need to hash out the particulars of the loan (permanent move?) arrangement.
