After losing out to Liverpol for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to the player’s own volition, Chelsea have now turned their sights to veteran players who could deputise at the right wing-back role. In addition to rumors linking the club with free agent Bacary Sagna, according to the London Evening Standard, Inter Milan’s Antonio Candreva and Bayern Munich’s Rafinha remain Chelsea targets.

Candreva has been linked with a potential Chelsea switch since the announcement of Antonio Conte as a Blues’ head coach last year. As one of Conte’s most trusted players during his work at the Italian national team, the 30-year-old midfielder is able to play in every position on the pitch bar centre-back and goalkeeper. He has also been a key contributor to Inter Milan’s efforts since his arrival at the club last summer, making 45 appearances for them in the 2016-17 season.
As for Rafinha, Chelsea’s interest was already been reported (by German tabloid Bild) and denied (by Sky Deutschland) yesterday. But the 32-year-old remains a name to keep track of in the final hours of the transfer window.
Neither Candreva nor Rafinha were our primary targets, but they have the quality to deputise as wing back depth. The former is certainly a more interesting option due to his versatility, and perhaps more attainable as well.
As Nike would say, just do it, Chelsea!
UPDATE: LOL, that was quick.
