Chelsea show interest in Bayern Munich right-back — report

The wing-back hunt continues.

German outlet Bild are reporting that Chelsea are interested in Bayern Munich defender Rafinha.

The interest is closely timed to Chelsea being rejected by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who would’ve provided some much needed depth in midfield and at wing-back. Seeing as Chelsea’a hopes in Chamberlain have waned, enter Rafinha.

Rafinha has been at Bayern since 2011, making less then 20 appearances in a season only once in his time with the Bavarian giants. He’s played key roles in Bayern’s achievements over the years, but has found himself playing second fiddle to the promising Joshua Kimmich this year.

Bild continue in their report that Bayern isn’t likely to let Rafinha go. He’s a strong veteran presence in their defense and without Philipp Lahm, Bayern need older heads in the locker room. If Chelsea are forced to give up on Chamberlain completely with the transfer deadline approaching fast, we may hear much more about Rafinha yet.
