For a second consecutive season, Chelsea have let most of their transfer transactions for the final days of the summer window. Still, better late than never as the Telegraph claims the Blues have made a £25 million offer for Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley.

Along with the bid for Barkley, Chelsea are also stepping up their efforts to sign other Premier League proven commodities in Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater, Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Swansea's Fernando Llorente.
In Barkley's case, the Toffees are hoping for Tottenham to make a desperation push with a bid of their own to take the Englishman's valuation closer to the £50 million that was their initial asking price. Spurs have supposedly been in the lead for Barkley’s signature, but now will have to content with Chelsea potentially swooping in.
Although Barkley is out of contention until December due to a hamstring injury, both Chelsea and Tottenham believe he will prove to be a bargain once he is back to full fitness. Hopefully he can indeed prove this point in Chelsea’s colors at Stamford Bridge.
