Twelve days to go in the 2017 summer transfer window, twelve signings needed.
Okay, maybe things aren’t that dire. They’re about a quarter that dire, with Chelsea needed a minimum of three signings — backups for both wing-back and a central midfielder as well. Signing more versatile players could possibly allow the club to get away with just two.
That’s where targets like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Antonio Candreva come into play, with both players adept at multiple positions. The Ox could possibly deputize at wing-back on both flanks as well as central midfield, while Candreva is capable at right wing and midfield, too. But while the former remains a possible transfer target yet, the latter sounds like much more of a rumor mill fabrication.
His current manager agrees.
“My position is to keep him and the club agrees with me, for now he has not shown any other signals. We go forward calmly, then I don’t know what could happen tomorrow.
“As far as I can tell, Chelsea could try to do something. You are the ones who always anticipate these situations, so I should ask you. You are very good at writing names in the papers and getting people swept up in it.”

With Candreva on the wrong side of 30 already, this rumor seemed a bit far-fetched from the very start. But without any desire from Inter or the player himself to make this move happen, Chelsea’s interest is a non-starter in any case.
