Chelsea to ‘push for’ Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodríguez — report

Real Madrid still haven’t sold James Rodríguez (assuming they want to sell him), so here’s the retur of the Chelsea rumors given that Manchester United are about to spend lots of money elsewhere (or are they?). Having spent the last two seasons as mostly a backup/rotational option under manager Zinedine Zidane, James is supposedly also desperate to leave the club, with the Spanish media trying their hardest to sell him to another top European club.

According to Spanish newspaper AS (via Inside Futbol), Chelsea are now leading the chase for James over PSG and Manchester United, despite the fact that the Blues have little to no need of spending over the odds for a player in his position.

Even if Madrid manage to beat Barcelona for the signature of Real Bétis midfielder Dani Ceballos and thus ease up on their demands for James, it is still unlikely that Chelsea would be looking to spend big on a star attacking midfielder when all efforts should be concentrated on replacing Diego Costa, and improving the central midfield and wing-back depth.

Move along, everybody... nothing to see here, just as before.
