The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, who first broke the news of Matić reaching an agreement in principle with Manchester United, is back with an update about Mourinho’s déjà vu of Chelsea’s summer of 2015. Like two years ago, José apparently submitted his wishlist to the club back in April, but so far, they’ve yet to secure his targets beyond just center back Victor Lindelöf. Sound familiar?
But that’s none of our business.
What is our business is that Nemanja Matić is supposedly one of those targets and while Mourinho’s displeased with progress so far, he’s putting the public pressure on Ed Woodward and is hopeful of a done deal by this weekend.
...Mourinho has seen deals for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Real Madrid’s Álvaro Morata stall. The Portuguese remains hopeful the transfers of the midfielder and centre-forward can be secured before Sunday.

On Chelsea’s end, the Matić deal may or may not be dependent on the club securing young Tiemoué Bakayoko’s signature. Since that’s also expected to be happening soon, perhaps Mourinho will indeed get his man before their pre-season preparations start in a week.
