Chelsea's search for depth in midfield and wing-back has a rather surprising new name to consider in Barcelona youth product Sergi Roberto, A midfielder by nature and right back by trade, the 25-year-old is supposedly on Chelsea’s shortlist, according to ESPN.

Sergi emerged through Barça's ranks as a central midfielder, but only had a proper shot at making into the team's starting eleven as a right back last season after the departure of Dani Alves. While he was not exactly a like-for-like replacement for the veteran Brazilian (and later Chelsea transfer target), Sergi still managed 47 appearances across all competitions. But his place is now under threat thanks to new arrival Nélson Semedo from Benfica. Sergi's contract has a £37.5 million release clause, which can be activated by Chelsea if they decide to cut to the chase.
Though Sergi would likely arrive at Chelsea to deputise as a right wing-back, he is also a very capable midfielder and his versatility would certainly fit well into the squad. Even if Barcelona were to force us into paying the release clause, he could be a worthwhile acquisition.
