Official: Jay Dasilva returns to Charlton on loan

The young wingback gets another season in League One.

Early on Friday morning, UK time, Chelsea Twitter woke to the news of another young youth prospect being shipped out on loan. This time, however, it wasn’t unexpected, and it wasn’t to the faraway climes of Siberia or Turkey, but rather south-east London, where Charlton Athletic call home.

Dasilva isn’t a foreign entity to The Addicks, having spent the second half of last season there on loan, making 10 league appearances before returning to Stamford Bridge this summer. The return, however, was short lived, and Dasilva was keen to make Charlton his home for the coming campaign as well.

"I'm very happy to be back at Charlton for the season. I really enjoyed myself here last season and I feel like I did well when I got my chance in the team. We finished strongly and I'm hoping that I can build on that momentum when the new season starts.

"I really enjoyed playing under Karl. He gave me a lot of freedom when I was on the pitch and hopefully this season I can do as well as I can, I can help the team and we can get Charlton back into the Championship."

The 19-year-old left back will spend 2017-18 in League One, where he will hopefully play big minutes in Charlton’s campaign.

As of right now, Chelsea’s left back depth consists of Marcos Alonso, an out-of-position Kenedy, and the very very very injured Baba Rahman.

Good luck Jay!

P.S.: As is often the case for players heading out on loan, Dasilva first signed a new long-term Chelsea contract.
