Newly promoted Premier League side Huddersfield Town have begun their summer spending spree, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their first top-flight campaign in 45 years.
They’ve already signed strikers Steve Mounié and Laurent Depoitre from Montpellier and FC Porto, respectively, and most recently have signed former loanee Aaron Mooy from Manchester City in a club record transfer. Club chairman Dean Hoyle has openly stated that there’s more money to be spent on players this summer and naturally, Chelsea youngsters Kasey Palmer and Isaiah Brown, who helped Town win promotion last season have been linked with moves back up north. Premier League rules dictate that no more than one player can be loaned from one team to another within the league, so in order to acquire both players, Town would have to buy one of them.
In fact, manager David Wagner has already confirmed as much.
#HTAFC boss David Wagner tells me they've made enquiries about signing Kasey Palmer & Izzy Brown permanently but reckons only one could come

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, the one earmarked for a permanent move is Brown, who spent the second half of the season at Huddersfield after toiling at relegation fodder Rotherham United for the first, while another loan move for Palmer is set to go through.
Huddersfield set to re-sign Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer on loan. Izzy Brown under consideration for permanent £8m deal #htafc #cfc

No doubt, both players would like to return to the club to finish what they started and this seems like the most suitable solution for all parties involved. All things considered, £8m seems like a fair price for Brown, with perhaps a buy-back clause slipped in as well. Palmer is the more technically proficient footballer and while he hasn’t had as much experience in senior football (Brown has already spent season on loan at Vitesse as well), it’s understandable that Chelsea might want to retain Palmer instead.
Both players have also been teasing a return to Huddersfield on social media fairly regularly. While Palmer’s move looks a certainty, Brown’s is ‘under consideration’ presumably due to Town’s interest in Derby County attacking midfielder Tom Ince, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League every single summer since 2013 and is 25 years old now. In any case, watching the development of our current and former prospects play important roles in the Premier League will certainly be interesting at least.
