It’s a midweek transfer rumor-off! Spain vs. Italy, rumor vs. rumor, rumour vs. rumour, gazump vs. ga-unzump, mano a mano, corpo a corpo.
In the blue corner, we have Gianluca Di Marzio, the man once known as the Oracle but lately reduced to a bit less lofty status as far as rumor-trustworthiness goes. He (or, just as likely, Sky Italia) claims that Manchester City are now ahead in the chase for Danilo, even though that makes little sense either for club and player. But who can resist a good gazump story?
In the red corner, we have Madrid’s El Confidencial, whose rumor-trustworthiness doesn’t quite match the promise of their name, but they can be decent for anything to do with the Madrid-based clubs. They claim that Chelsea are closing in some more — so close! — and a move for around €32m is about to be agreed. That falls well within the €30-35m range that’s been rumored to be Danilo’s fee.
So it’s Di Marzio vs. El Confidencial. Only one can win.
