UPDATE: As is often standard practice, Van Ginkel also signed a contract extension with Chelsea, tying him to the club until 2020.
Congratulations and good luck at PSV, Marco! https://t.co/KRbLiKo8X4

PREVIOUSLY:
Amid his multiple injuries, Marco van Ginkel has had four loan spells away from Chelsea since his arrival in the summer of 2013. Failing to find his rhythm at Stoke City and at AC Milan, Van Ginkel found his comfort zone in the Eredivisie and excelled in both of his two short-term loan spells at PSV. He has now signed a new 3-year-deal with Chelsea and returned to Eindhoven for a third go-around, this time for the whole season.

Antonio Conte has had multiple opportunities to take the midfielder into consideration for his first-team plans but now, if not before already, it is quite clear that Van Ginkel’s long-term future lies away from Chelsea. When that future might begin is anyone’s guess.
It was expected that Van Ginkel would return to PSV on a permanent move already (with a buy-back clause, even!), although a third loan spell is understandable as well. Largely due to his injuries, Van Ginkel has not completed a full season of football at the same club since his move to Chelsea in 2013. Just like in his previous two spells at PSV, he’s likely to do just as well this time around and may eventually command at least the same amount that Chelsea paid for him (£8m).
Good luck to Wulfert Cornelius; hopefully he’ll have an injury-free, successful season that will also be his last one as a loanee.
