It was only a few days ago that highly promising Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham looked set to join former Chelsea manager Rafael Benítez at Newcastle United on a season-long loan deal to help make their return to the Premier League awesome. However, this deal is still not done as, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, the Magpies are still battling it out with Brighton for the 19-year-old’s signature.
While Chelsea and Newcastle had agreed on terms, including Newcastle paying 100 per cent of Tammy's wages, Brighton have pushed through with a similar offer. And while both teams would offer a reasonable challenge as far as minutes and opportunities are concerned, Brighton hope they have an edge due to their relative proximity to Surrey, which is where the 19-year-old currently resides.
In any case, the ball thus remains in Abraham’s court. Whatever choice he makes (or Chelsea make for him), hopefully he’ll be instrumental in taking a few points off of Chelsea’s title rivals in the process.
