In classic Silly Season fashion, Leonardo Bonucci is back in the news today.
Italian newspaper La Stampa are claiming that his agent was in London and may or may not have had a bit of a chat with Chelsea, who are apparently ready to offer €55m for the 30-year-old. That much money for a 30-year-old doesn’t exactly scream good business, though €55m for a 30-year-old Bonucci may not be the worst business.
That said, this is nonsense on multiple levels.
Chelsea simply don’t sign players over 30 on multi-year deals these days — be that our own players or someone else’s. Bonucci has also declared his intent to stay at Juventus many times, including when he signed a brand new long-term contract in December, and again after his little bit of a public row with head coach Max Allegri, who recently signed a brand new deal with The Old Lady as well.
In fact, the very same report from La Stampa quotes Bonucci himself dismissing any and all rumors as nothing more than just idle talk, a fact that then the Daily Star’s re-reporting of this rumor conveniently ignores and omits. Journalism is easy!
#Bonucci: "Io via dalla #Juve? Solo chiacchiere" Ma il #Chelsea lo vuole @LaStampa

As much as I would love to see Bonucci in Chelsea Blue, this ship has sailed. Next!
