If you read our Summer Transfer Notebook, you will have known that we rate Juventus left back Alex Sandro quite highly around these parts. He “may well be the most complete wing back in world football at the moment” was Joe’s exact phrasing, with the unfortunate caveat that the 26-year-old Brazilian who joined The Old Lady from FC Porto two years ago, won’t ever be available. And he may still not be available and this could all just be a ploy to get him a better contract, but according to Turin-based newspaper La Stampa, Juventus have put a valuation on him that Chelsea are just €10m short of meeting.

According to the report, Chelsea met Alex Sandro’s agent in London over the weekend and followed that up with a €40m bid, which has been or will be rejected. Juventus want €50m, which is just about the new going rate for anybody half-decent in today’s market. €50m for arguably the world’s best left back? Hmmm ... don’t call our name, Marcos Alonso, we’re not your babe, Ryan Bertrando ... Alex Sandro, Alex Sandro, Ale-Ale-Sandro...
