Marcos Alonso had a great debut season for Chelsea, but the Premier League champions are looking to add quality depth and competition at the position. While Monaco wing-backs Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibe have been rumored most often in that regard, according to Italian newspaper of dubious renown La Repubblica (via Sport Mediaset), the Blues have also begun targeting Juventus left back Alex Sandro.
In his second season at Juve, Alex Sandro earned rave reviews for his scintillating performances, cementing his status as one of the world's best left backs. (He’s in our Summer Transfer Notebook as well.) The Old Lady are looking to reward him with a new contract, but things are never quite that simple in the world of modern football and agents. The report claims that it would be "very difficult" for Juventus to keep a hold of Sandro in light of Chelsea's interest, but all that really means is that they’ll have to give him a slightly bigger pay packet instead.
With three years left on his current contract and assured of a starting spot at one of the best teams in the world (Champions League finalists and all that), Chelsea stand very little chance in any such pursuit of Alex Sandro. For now, this is nothing more than fantasy dreamland and idle speculation.
