Inter Milan give up Conte lark, focus on realistic managerial target instead — report

Inter Milan chairman Piero Ausilio admitted defeat ten days ago on their long-shot efforts to try to prize Antonio Conte away from Chelsea this summer; now, the rumor mill has followed suit as well, with the Mail turning Inter’s attentions away from Conte and towards soon-to-be-former AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti always seemed like the man for the Inter job (especially after former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini joined up as well), and with Diego Simeone, Inter’s other dream target besides Conte, choosing to stay at Atlético Madrid, the Nerazzurri can now make the obvious move.

The Conte to Inter rumors have been rumbling along since February, the rumor mill’s feedback loop ensuring that they were able to perpetuate basically the same story until eternity. Fortunately, a bit of harsh reality glitched into the system finally, breaking the chain and letting us move on with our lives to Conte’s new contract, a family reunion, and the promise of even greater things in the future.
