AS Roma could offer Zouma, Christensen opportunities — report

Frequent Chelsea transfer rumor foils AS Roma are back for another summer of fun as they look to reinforce and upgrade their team to properly challenge Juventus next season. Juve had just won their sixth consecutive Serie A title over the weekend (first three with Conte; last three with Allegri), triggering their buy clause on Juan Cuadrado and triggering a renewed desire in the likes of Roma to dethrone them.

Unfortunately for the Giallorossi, their task could be complicated by the summer departures of center backs Antonio Rüdiger and/or Kostas Manolas (both of whom have been linked with Chelsea before, so brace yourselves!). But according to Corriere dello Sport, business may actually conducted in the other direction as Roma’s new sporting director, Monchi, who made his name by building excellent sides on a limited budget at Sevilla, could be looking at Chelsea duo Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen as part of his transfer plans.

Zouma, 22, and Christensen, 21 are both set to challenge for Chelsea first-team spots this summer but there’s a decent chance that they won’t both make it. There are a lot of variables in play of course, but given Christensen’s stated desire to be a Chelsea first-team player and Zouma’s stated desire to simply get enough minutes to properly complete his ACL rehab, it’s the latter who is more likely at this point to see a loan move next season. AS Roma would certainly not be a bad choice, as long as we don’t do one of those silly loan-to-buy deals for him.
