Just to illustrate what sort of figures we’re talking about should Chelsea manage to re-sign Romelu Lukaku this summer, Everton apparently rejected an €80m bid from the Blues last summer. That’s the claim of Sport/Foot Magazine in Belgium (via Sport Witness), who recently interviewed Lukaku for a feature in their publication.
(This is the same interview wherein Lukaku reveals that he subscribes to Chelsea TV, MUTV, and Real Madrid TV because he just can’t get enough football. Needless to say, that has now been turned into transfer rumors as well.)

But back to the €80m (+bonuses!) bid.
While circumstances are slightly different now than last summer — most notably Lukaku was willing to sign a new deal 12 months ago with Everton but has recently told management that he wouldn’t — the only thing that Lukaku has done on the pitch since is lead the league in goals. Chances are, he will not go for anything less than €80m after a career year. In fact, that supposed £100m valuation suddenly looks quite ... well, not reasonable, but certainly understandable (from Everton’s perspective).
So unless Lukaku throws a fuss (which he certainly could), Chelsea are not getting any sort of friendly discount here.
