Everton boss confirms Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku will not sign new contract

Over the weekend, Everton manager Ronald Koeman revealed that they are letting Romelu Lukaku make his own decision regarding his future, presumably intimating that should Lukaku choose to leave, they would not stand in his way (provided proper compensation is provided by whoever Lukaku would choose of course).

Today, Koeman has revealed that Lukaku has made up his mind and will not sign the new contract that has been on table since the summer. Granted, Lukaku and flip-flopping go together almost as well as Lukaku and goal-scoring does, but after repeatedly being at least 99 per cent close to signing, the 24-year-old has apparently chosen otherwise.

"He told me he won't sign a new contract.”

Koeman claims to not know anything more beyond that, unlike Didier Drogba, who laughingly told Sky Sports yesterday that he knows what Lukaku’s planning but won’t be telling anyone. Koeman saltily commented on that whole story as well.

“No [I don't know where Lukaku wants to go]. Maybe I wait for the call from Drogba to tell me where he wants to go.”

So that sucks for the Everton boss, but is probably good news as far as Chelsea are concerned.
