Versatile Inter Milan winger remains on Chelsea's transfer radar — report

Despite moving from Lazio to Inter Milan just last summer, veteran winger Antonio Candreva continues to be linked with Chelsea. According to La Gazzeta dello Sport (via Daily Express), the 30-year-old remains on the Blues’ transfer radar as he continues to make good impact in the Serie A.

The newspaper reports that manager Antonio Conte himself went as far as approaching Inter's sporting director with a £21.5 million for Candreva — though as we should all know by now, Conte is not in charge of transfer deals at Chelsea and would thus be unlikely to be making any offers for anyone, let alone a newly rich team that seems to be at the certain of every other minor or major rumor these days. Nevertheless, the Chelsea boss apparently wants reunion with the player he had worked with for two years in the Italian national team setup.

As a versatile right-footed player who often featured under Conte for Italy, Candreva could be a good fit for Chelsea ... if he were maybe a few years younger. At this point, paying over £20m for a depth signing, even if he’s a pretty good depth signing and could thus be useful for next season’s more congested fixture list, seems like a bad choice.
