The Spanish media’s at it again (still?), sipping on that Courtois-to-Real nectar and getting high on their own supply. Following fresh rumors yesterday from Goal.com’s Nizaar Kinsella and Alberto Pinero, about how Courtois is once again Real Madrid’s number one priority — just a few weeks ago, it was David De Gea, now it’s Courtois, tomorrow it will probably be De Gea again — Cesc Fàbregas was asked about this potential move, too, during a media appearance on Spanish radio.
“[Real’s interest] wouldn’t surprise me at all because Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s normal that the best teams in the world want the best goalkeeper in the world.”
“Chelsea is a top club and, for the future of this team, Thibaut is a very, very important player. That is more so considering Chelsea’s future aspirations in terms of competing in the Champions League next season and winning the Premier League title. You need the best players to compete for the top trophies and Thibaut is one of them.”

Cadena SER have been one of the loudest voices in the Courtois-to-Real campaign, and while the Chelsea goalkeeper is “basically Spanish”, to use Fàbregas’s phrasing from training earlier this weekend, he’s repeatedly said he’s happy at Chelsea, who would be quite foolish to sell him — especially since comparable world class options like Jan Oblak have €100m release clauses.
