Chelsea have been linked with a couple AS Monaco players already this season — given their amazing goalscoring antics, averaging an almost unheard of three goals per game down there in the Principality, that’s hardly surprising — but this is the first time young Thomas Lemar has popped up in the Chelsea rumor mill. He joins midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and fullback Djibril Sidibe on the Blues’ radar.
The Lemar rumor is being picked up by various English sources this morning, but they all trace back to a story in L’Equipe yesterday. The story there (via ESPN) is that Manchester City are ready to part with £30m for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder’s services, but that Chelsea and Bayern Munich are interested as well. Of course, there’s a contract renewal possibly at stake here as well, as is often the case in rumors featuring so many interested teams.
#MCFC very keen on Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, report L'Equipe. 21 yr old stalling on contract extension. #CFC & #Bayern also interested

Even if Monaco go on to win the league over PSG, it’s expected that they will cash in on several of their highly coveted players, of which they have plenty. Plenty will also be the competition for their signatures.
Right now, Lemar’s nowhere near the top of the list of realistic departures — Sidibe, Fabinho, Bakayoko much more likely, while Mbappe and Bernardo Silva a bit less likely — but you never know. Monaco’s certainly worth keeping an eye on this summer.
