Alex Sandro was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but despite rumors of Chelsea offering club record amounts to Juventus for the left back’s signature, the 26-year-old decided to stay with the Italian champions. Without a fall-back option, Chelsea ended up not signing any new left backs to help lighten Marcos Alonso’s workload, in what was probably the greatest actual failure of the club’s summer transfer window activities.
Part of the reason for Sandro’s decision to stay was a supposed promise from The Old Lady of a new contract extension and associated wage rise. Several months later, that extension is nowhere near. Meanwhile, Sandro’s performances have dropped a level as well — though they were of the highest standard before, so it’s all a bit relative — just as the team themselves have struggled to reproduce their imperious form from last campaign.
All of that shakes out into a return of the Alex Sandro-to-Chelsea rumors. The Telegraph go even as far as to claim that it’s a “fact” that the left back “wants to quit” Juventus. Unlike in the summer, when he apparently wanted to stay, Sandro’s desire to leave Turin could result in a lower transfer fee, too — the report guesses around £50m, which is a cool £20m less than rumored just a few months ago.

Of course, this could all be just another ploy for a new Juventus contract, just as all the rumors in the summer ended up proving to be, but it sounds like if Chelsea want their man, we might actually be able to get him either in January or in the summer (depending on when Juventus can secure a replacement for him, who may or may not be Alex Telles).
