Fiorentina seeking loan move for Chelsea left back — report

It has been almost a year since Baba Rahman, then on loan at Schalke 04, tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee, while away with the Ghanaian national football team at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Several setbacks have kept the 24-year-old sidelined ever since, with a summer loan return to Schalke 04 falling through as well. He’s since turned his attentions to possibly earning a spot in Chelsea's first team.

But the 23-year-old does have several backup plans in case that fails or is deemed not the smartest course of action — like Kurt Zouma, for example, Baba will need regular match time to properly finishing his rehabilitation. One possibility is a long-rumored return to Schalke. Another could Fiorentina, who are apparently (according to Italian newspaper La Nazione via Inside Futbol) are interested in making a loan move for the Chelsea left back.

But because this is Italy, they’d also apparently want a buy-option, which is something Chelsea are not too keen on, especially after all the drama of the Mohamed Salah soap opera back in 2015, which included Fiorentina looking for damage payments from Chelsea.

If Baba Rahman were fit, he’d provide an intriguing option and possible solution for Chelsea’s left-wing depth concerns. As it stands however, he might be better served by going out on loan. January should bring some clarity to this situation.
