In his press conference on Friday, Antonio Conte shed a bit of light on Chelsea’s plans for the current transfer window, stating that he does not need any new central defenders at this time. With Kurt Zouma back healthy and set to play on Sunday for the first time in almost a year and veterans Terry and Ivanovic providing fall-back options, it’s perhaps understandable.

There’s probably a healthy dose of reality in terms of the “right” targets not being available at this time (Romagnoli, et al.) at play here, not to mention a long-term plan to integrate Andreas Christensen into the squad, and the likes of Nathan Ake, Fikayo Tomori possibly knocking on the door as well. And if we want to be overly positive about our loanees and prospects, there are always names like Miazga, Omeruo, Kalas, or Clarke-Salter to consider, too.
So, wing-back and midfielder and maybe a backup forward it is?
