Transfer Deadline Day is only getting sillier at this point, and for some reason, Chelsea are getting linked with attacking players left and right. And if the £34-40m rumors of a Moussa Dembélé bid weren’t enough, various English tabloids are now picking up two-day-old rumors out of Italy that Chelsea have joined a “long queue” for Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi, who’s recently made his comeback from a minor-ish knee strain and inflammation.
There are even stray Twitter rumors this morning that Michael Emenalo is in Italy to get this deal done, though that seems a bit fanciful since he’s not usually in charge of any negotiations.
While there’s no denying that Berardi looks like a quality young player — 40 goals in his first 90 Serie A games and still just 22 years old! — the reports in Italy make it pretty clear that Juventus have the first option on his acquisition at €25m. Several other Serie A teams are interested as well, as I’m sure plenty of other teams among Europe’s elite are in the reckoning, too.
Berardi was called up to the Italy national team by Conte himself in October 2015, which provides a convenient angle to make this rumor more believable.
