According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Goal.com), Chelsea along with Premier League outfits Liverpool and Manchester United will be chasing after the signature of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
This is not the first time that Perisic has been linked with a Chelsea transfer, as he was also rumoured to be one of our targets for the summer transfer window last year before the arrival of Antonio Conte. This season so far, the tall Croatian had aided Internazionale with 7 goals and 1 assist in 19 games — he’s the team’s second-best goalscorer behind Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi who has 15 goals and 7 assists in 20 matches.
While Perisic has often featured on the left wing for Inter, he can also play on the opposite flank or as a central attacking midfielder. He also had a good showing at Euro 2016 last year, helping the Croatian national team reach the round of 16 stage where they were beaten by eventual champions Portugal 1-0.
Given our attackers' current form, Chelsea don't look to be a team in dire need of Perisic's services — and neither do Liverpool or Manchester United, for that matter. According to Gazzetta, Conte has been a keen admirer of Perisic for the longest time, but it is still highly doubtful that the manager's admiration for the player would prompt Chelsea to make an approach for him this month, as the report claims.
However, come next summer, this interest will certainly be re-ignited once again, especially if Perisic manages to keep his current form going.
