With long-time captain John Terry set to leave the club at the end of the season, Chelsea are looking for an English name to fill in his role for the foreseeable future. According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Middlesbrough centre back Ben Gibson could very well be that name.

The 23-year-old has given a good impression of himself during his time at Boro, so it might take upwards of £30 million to prise him away. Meanwhile, his manager Aitor Karanka wants Gibson to keep his mind on the football and the task at hand.

"Ben Gibson is playing well has a lot of potential, and a lot of people are talking about him. He has to keep focused on his football."

Gibson could be an interesting option to add next summer even amidst all the other youngsters who may be stepping up into bigger role (Chrsitensen, Zouma, etc.).

While Terry has decided to stay at Chelsea for now despite AFC Bournemouth's interest in bringing him to Dean Court on a loan deal, there’s no contract renewal in sight for the Captain this year. He could be looking to make a profitable switch to China eventually, while Ivanovic is in the same situation as well. There will be plenty of opportunities for the next generation to thus stake a claim.
