Chelsea and PSG are only £6m apart on David Luiz fee — reports

Most reports have agreed so far that even if David Luiz and Chelsea are in fact keen on a reunion, PSG aren't necessarily willing to play ball.  At least not until they secure a replacement, and they're not about go scrambling around for one until they get a big enough offer to motivate them into doing so.

Chelsea's reported offer in the low 30s is unfortunately not good enough.  That's according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the Blues would have to offer something much closer to £40m.

Chelsea have had their £32m bid for David Luiz rejected and will go back with another offer before the transfer deadline. Luiz left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 for £50m and the Blues may need to pay close to £40m to seal the return of their former defender. The Brazilian is unsettled in the French capital and has his heart set on a return to London and Stamford Bridge.

Since a transfer request has been ruled out, the onus is on Chelsea to increase the bid.  So how high would we have to go?

So £6m more.  Surely not a big deal; certainly doable.  But if Chelsea are serious, this offer needs to be made soon.  Less than eleven hours to go.

NB.
It should be noted that while £50m was the widely reported transfer fee when Chelsea sold David Luiz to PSG, there's a good chance it was much closer to something like £37m.
