Benfica defender back on the desperate Chelsea radar as the hours dwindle away in the transfer window

According to Portuguese tabloid Record (via Sport Witness), Benfica center back Victor Lindelof is back on Chelsea's radar as a possible last-minute signing.  The young Swedish international has a €30m release clause, though with Benfica unwilling to sell, Chelsea's up front costs would be a fair bit higher than that (i.e. taxes).  Still, given the even more outrageous prices quoted for other targets, seeing Lindelof's name pop up again isn't surprising at all, even if it is just as an easy re-run of the stories from about a month ago.

It was also Record who first reported Chelsea's apparent interest in the 22-year-old back in July, and although the kid followed that up a few weeks later with a renewed, strong, public commitment to the club ("I will stay" were his exact words), Silly Season doesn't necessarily care about that.  Silly Season plays by its own rules and does whatever it wants.  And right now, it wants us to believe that there might be a possibility here for Chelsea to sign a center back.

Hope we've got that chopper fueled and ready to go and grab him from the Swedish national team's training camp where he's currently preparing to face the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying.  Just in case.
