As left back Baba Rahman makes his way back to the Bundesliga, Chelsea might be looking at a couple replacements (especially since we loaned out Nathan Ake, who could have filled this role adequately).
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues have made an enquiry to PSV Eindhoven for their 24-year-old full-back Santiago Arias. The Colombian player, who's capable of playing on either flank of the pitch, was apparently watched by Chelsea scouts last week. Arias has been at PSV since July 2013, making 103 appearances - 98 as a starter - for his club across all competitions, featuring mostly as a right back.
Meanwhile, according to rather dubious rumors (though similar sources to those who first broke the Baba move), Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez, who's been a highly coveted left back for some time now by most of Europe's elite. While he undoubtedly would make a stellar signing, this one may be a bit too good to be true.
As it stands, Chelsea have just three full-backs in the squad, and one of those, Ivanovic is injured. (And even when he's not injured, there are plenty of questions and worries about his ability to continue performing at the highest level.) Which leaves Cesar Azpilicueta, who we know can be excellent, and young Ola Aina, who's been impressive in pre-season but is still just 19. Adding another full-back, even if the likes of Kenedy or Zouma are possibly able to deputize if really needed, seems paramount.
